The best version of YOU - how WATER can help!

Hello PMTM! I'm Megan Hurley, and I'll be visiting you each month with quick tips, tricks, and insights on beauty lessons and rituals you can practice to develop the best version of YOU! Everything takes time…and practice. But with the right tools, motivation, and follow-through, you can feel your best on-camera and create an amazing feeling of confidence in all you do.

Some of my tips will be small beauty secrets anyone can do - some tips will not be product-related at all but rather a way to view and prepare for a situation you're about to walk into. They are both equally as important.

To begin, let's talk skin! To be frank, your skin is one of the most vulnerable areas of your body and also one of the most important as a model or actor. How do you take care of your skin? It's a question many find difficult to answer because they're not sure how. I understand; I've been there too.

So let's start small.

One practice you can begin TODAY is drinking more water. That's it! Sounds easy enough but trust me, this takes some practice and follow-through. With adequate water intake, your skin will appear less dull, wrinkles will be less pronounced, blood flow will increase to the skin, and proper hydration is linked to decreasing skin irritations and blemishes.

Your skin contains 64% water! We must be hydrated for the functions in our body and skin to operate optimally. The more you provide your body with "water love," the more your body and skin will LOVE YOU on camera. This practice is that simple. Oh, and did you know that being adequately hydrated helps to impede anxiousness and settle nerves? It does!

How much water should I drink?

Take your body weight and divide it by 2. Your answer is how many ounces of water you should be consuming daily. Typically between 60 and 80 ounces is a great start!

For example, an individual weighing 140 pounds should be consuming 70 oz. of water each day.

Pro Tip: A great way to begin your day is to enjoy a mug of warm lemon water. This will help you in several ways. It will aid in detoxing your gut, enhance your mood and energy level, and begins the day with a nice dose of vitamin C. You'll be surprised that the zest from a lemon can give you an energizing jolt, sans coffee!

What can I do to enjoy drinking more water?

1. I love these water bottles for motivation! They keep me on track with how many ounces I've drunk, and how many more have to go!

2. Infuse your water by adding lemon slices for an all-day refreshing enhancement! You have free reign to add anything you'd like! Here are some more ideas:

  • limes

  • sliced oranges

  • sliced cucumbers

  • mint leaves

  • rosemary

  • cilantro

  • blueberries

  • strawberries

3. These electrolyte packets are delicious! I add one packet in a 64 oz. bottle of water. I have no problem drinking my water as long as I have some added flavor! On days I'm not slicing fruit to infuse into my water, these packets save me!

4. Sip while you cook! If you are home making dinner create a quick infused water and sip while you cook. This will help you gain traction on your needed ounces and fill your belly, which may help with unnecessary snacking. Make this practice a "rule" while you cook.

5. Do you want to get serious? Let's go! Track your water intake on an app! Stats don't lie, so tracking your water intake will help you know exactly where you stand. This Daily Water App will also send reminders and alerts to keep you focused on achieving your daily goal!

6. Your final tip - start small. For some people, drinking water is already a daily practice. For others, it may not be easy to begin because they drink so little water. Sixty plus ounces a day may seem overwhelming, so take it slow. Begin by consciously choosing to add water to at least three parts of your day - morning, noon, night. Do this for a week, and then add it to two other points in your day, like mid-morning and afternoon. You may be running to the bathroom a bit more, but I promise how you will feel and look when you are well hydrated is worth it!

As I mentioned earlier, when your body is well hydrated, it's able to operate at its optimal level - which I exactly what you want when you appear on camera and are acting. Proper hydration will help you get restful sleep at night, support healthy functions in your gut, boost the appearance of your skin, and overall support your mood and body balance. It's my opinion that above all beauty treatments, tricks, and potions, you must start from within. Prepare your skin and body for your best self on camera and off!

Cheers to fresh H20!
