Spring/Summer Hair Trends for Women and Men

We are thrilled about the warmer weather approaching quickly. What better way to introduce the brighter months with some refreshing hair trends we have seen surfacing in the media. Scroll through these great looks suitable for both women and men and we are sure you'll find your summer look.

Bixie Hairstyle

A beautiful combination of the pixie cut and bob cut is sure to take us back to the 90's era. This textured style is shorter than a bob, but has the volume of a pixie, making it a perfect coif for the warmer months. The customization of this cut is suitable for all ages and styles which is why it is so exciting to see trending in 2022. The biggest thing to know about this minimal upkeep cut? It's all about texture.

Pros:

-Keeps you cool from the warmer weather.

-Can be worn by all ages and styles

-Low maintenance for the most part

Cons:

-A dedicated cut - be ready for this cut as it is hard to reverse!

-Not as suitable for naturally coiled or curly hair

-Re-growth may be challenging with the layers

How to ask for it:

-When asking for a Bixie cut, first make sure to discuss the length with your stylist, which should be dependent on what type of texture your hair is and your bone structure.

-If applicable, mention that you want texture added so that the look can frame your face, adding volume.

-Remember that this look can be worn naturally, however some kind of styling may be necessary to give it either that smooth or textured look.

-Show your hairdresser a photo of your favorite Bixie cut! (BangStyle 2022).

Lifted Chignon

Last year we had the middle-parted slicked-back low pony or bun. This season we are pulling it all the way back with this higher version of the classic look. This is another style that is perfect for the warmer months when the heat cannot be beaten. Hold down those flyaways and get your chic on with this versatile look, pairable with almost every hair type. Although it may be difficult to master this sleek style bump-free, if you practice enough you can achieve it. We have seen this version of the chignon spiking in popularity in recent months.

How to style:

-First, grab yourself some mega hold hair gel, hair spray, a hair tie, and a nylon/boar bristle brush.

-Use your gel and your brush, brushing the hair completely back until there are no bumps.

-Be sure to add gel to the bottom/back of your hair too and brush that up.

-Use your hands to continue pulling the hair back as you grab your hair tie.

-Tie your hair into a pony or bun.

-Finish off the look with some hair spray to hold those flyaways and you're done!

90's Hollywood Glam

Another blast to the 90's... and we are so excited! We have seen the style trending for 2022 with a daring part and locked-in curls. Thanks to icons like Marylin Monroe, we take pride in this complicated and glamourous look. This look can be pulled off by many ages and lengths of hair.

Styling Tips:

-Start by creating a deep side part using a parting tool.

-Use a 1" barrel curler to begin curling 2" pieces of hair - always towards your face

- Brush out curls and hold with hair spray.

-Tease the front section

Bubble Ponytail

A simple but effective style for when you just want to add a little bit of fun to your look. We have been seeing this trend play out over the last year with zero fallout. The plus side to these bubbles is that they are easier to achieve than your typical braid, and only require the skill of spacing your hair ties out evenly. Below we have a few examples of how one could style the bubble-look.

Styling Tips:

-This look may be difficult to achieve if your hair has a lot of layers.

-Mini clear hair elastics are essential to make this look pop.

-Pulling on your bubbles individually will create a rounder and bigger bubble

-Not pulling on your bubbles will give you a lengthier bubble as seen in the second photo below.

-Even if you don't have layers, pieces of hair can still poke out. Hair spray is your friend in this case; use it liberally to keep the wisps at bay.

Clips, Clips, and More Clips

We saw these clips back in the 90's and early 2000's as they then made a comeback in 2019/2020. The clips began to fizzle out for 2021 but are coming back with a bang this spring/summer 2022 season. One clothing trend we are seeing for this spring and summer is monochromatic outfits/color blocking. Clips are being used this year to add some energetic youth to those looks as seen in the second picture. The other difference we see for clips in 2022 versus previous years, is the use of more than 2 in the head at once. Talk about another reason for accessories! Summertime can be a challenge when creating looks with many layers/accessories because of the heat, so take this as an opportunity to make your look unique!

Style Tips:

-For a look more similar to these images, try purchasing a bundle package of clips that are suitable to your style.

-To achieve this look, use a hair gel similar to we talked about with the lifted chignon look. Part your hair down the center of your head and slick it down with a boar bristle brush. Then, using a hair elastic. style your hair into a bun.

-Struggling with fly-away hairs in the bun? Stick some bobby pins in there to secure those hard-to-tame pieces.

-Lastly, grab your favorite clips and place them either on the back of your head or on the sides as shown in the pictures. Be creative and have fun with it, that is what this look is all about!

-Are buns not your forte? Try doing a ponytail instead!

-Don't like up-dos? Try a half up - half down hairstyle. Or even leave it all the way down and slide those clips in!

Box Braids

Box braids are a great way to turn some heads with this drop-dead gorgeous look. Box braids add some flare from typical braids, as they are done using a square-shaped part where each braid is formed. These braids also pose some room for accessorizing as you can include some beads or pop of color for the springtime.

Style Tips:

-Keep your braids and scalp moisturized with serum or leave-in hydration for the seamless effect and longer life for the style.

-Wash frequently

-Stay away from frequent tight hairstyles like ponytails and buns for a longer-lasting effect; try using larger hair ties to hold the braids back without tightening them too much.

-Keep your braids protected at night with a satin bonnet to avoid friction.

Strawberry Blonde

Showing some love for the fun and flirty mix of red and blonde tones this season, we have seen this shade worn by many influencers recently. Decide what color you want to stand out in your strawberry blonde look; reddish, rosy, or warm, and you'll be sure to rock the emerging color for 2022.

Style Tips:

-There are many variations of this color, depending on your skin tone and natural hair color. Be sure to show your stylist reference photos of what you want exactly, and communicate what you aren't looking for.

-Try searching the web for/asking your stylist about auburn, red tones, and strawberry blonde, so you can get the best idea of what terms to use when describing what you want.

-Have natural fair, cool, or neutral skin tones? This color will bring out the best in you!

-Need some clothing inspiration? Try pairing this trendy color with shirts that are peachy, brown, beige, and pink tones for a winning combination.

Shaved and Dyed

Talk about the most low maintenance style of all, while still being perfect for a summer look! This look has many different variations, and we've seen it rocked by celebrities and in the fashion world. The greatest part about this look is how you can customize your color however you'd like, and if you are skilled, it can be done at home. All that is required is a good shave depending on if you want a cropped effect (first photo), or if you're for the natural look (second photo).

Style tips:

-Ask your barber to shave with a low engine, and leave about 1cm of hair at the top for a perfect length.

-Go to a hair salon for the color. If you have naturally darker hair some bleaching is required for the bright and neon colors to show.

-Find a specialist who can do patterns and designs, or try it out with the help of a friend if you're looking for a challenge (New Old Man 2021).

Style Tips:

-Talk to your stylist about a square layered cut.

-Try towel drying it roughly.

-Use pomade for a sleek effect

-Use a sea salt spray for structure and texture.

Blonde

A simple way to explore the dye world. We've seen this look done many times in the athlete, fraternity, and celebrity groups, but it never fails to create a whole new look. This look is best for shorter hair lengths as it is easiest to achieve a well-balanced color. Remember that bleach is a big deal - don't make the big change without some consideration first;

Style Tips:

-Bleach is irreversible unlike dying your hair darker.

-If you wish to go back to your natural color, ask your stylist before bleaching about what the reverse process will look like for you.

-Ask for a patch test to be done before you take the plunge.

-Keep it moisturized; the bleach will dry out your hair.

-Find the right color treating shampoo to keep your blonde from turning brassy and yellow.
